InterContinental Montreal

InterContinental Montreal hotel review

A busy and buzzing hotel with lots activity in the public spaces, and quiet luxurious rooms with sumptuous décor, here is our InterContinental Montreal hotel review – a classic city base.

Location

I found the InterContinental Montreal conveniently located between downtown and Old Montreal, with its quaint cobblestone streets and old Victorian-style houses.

Ambiance and Service

Walking into the stylish lobby, past a café, the concierge desk and up an escalator, it felt as if I was entering a whole town, not merely a place in which to spend the night.  And essentially it was – attached and accessible through Montreal’s famous Underground City, connecting much of the downtown area via tunnels and underground streets filled with shops, cafes and restaurants.

The Room

Through the quiet and sumptuously decorated corridors, I found my accommodation – a corner room with a large window offering spectacular view over the rooftops of Old Montreal and Le Fleuve Saint-Laurent or the Saint Lawrence River beyond. Spacious, yet cosy and decorated in shades of wine red, it had everything I needed for a comfortable stay – large writing desk, comfy armchair, a coffee machine and roomy bathroom complete with a shower and a tub.

The Amenities

Later that evening, after a few lengths in the hotel’s indoor pool (to work off all that maple syrup I had been consuming), I met my friend downstairs for a drink at Sarah B. – a traditional absinthe bar. With olive coloured walls, elegant velvet green chairs and glittering chandeliers, it had all the look of a clandestine absinthe bar in Eastern Europe. Of course they served the sweet green spirit the traditional way too, giving us absinthe spoons and sugar cubes, showing us how to dip water onto the sugar so that it dissolves into the glass below.

Our Verdict – InterContinental Montreal hotel review

So much more than a simple base and a place to lay my head, the InterContinental Montreal was the ideal space in which to dine, socialise with my friends, work and explore the delights of Old Montreal from.
