Mövenpick Resort Jimbaran Bali hotel review

A five-star haven with Balinese influence, and just a skip from the atmospheric Jimbaran Beach. The Mövenpick Resort Jimbaran Bali is spectacularly designed and a 15-minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport. You’ll find it hard not to feel relaxed as you navigate through the cool water and chill on the pool-side hammocks at this family-friendly resort.

The Location

From the green rice terraces around the cultural centre of Ubud, to the party central of Kuta, or laid back Sanur, Indonesian’s alternative and exotic island has a wealth of different areas to stay in. The Mövenpick Resort Jimbaran Bali lies on the south-western tip of the island, next to the lively, but relaxing Jimbaran Bay. Compared to the bustling traffic and touting atmosphere of Ubud, and the all night festivities of Kuta, this area is more tranquil and family orientated. This area is a favourite with celebrities and well-to-do visitors, who simply want to relax. A short drive south on the Bukit Peninsula you’ll find the famed Uluwatu Temple, and Ubud lies just over an hour’s drive away, so you’re well placed to explore the unique temples and cultural shows the island has to offer.

Ambience and Service

Upon entering the Mövenpick Resort Jimbaran Bali, we were astounded by the wooden-framed view looking out over the bay. It was as if we were walking through the lens of an eighteenth-century camera. This air of authenticity and exclusivity is carried through with the simply, but uniquely-carved wooden window panels, hanging sculpted metal features and threaded whicker seating. Relaxed Balinese staff greeted us with cool icy drink and we felt suddenly at ease – after our time dodging mopeds in the streets of Ubud. Flanked by sheltered huts and palm trees, we felt obliged to make a few circuits of the pool complex, before laying on one of the inflatables and drinking a tropical cocktail.

The Room

Our room was located in the brand new wing of the hotel. It was spacious and decorated with soft earthy-coloured panels and Balinese-inspired wooden carvings. Our full length windows and small balcony looked out onto the sparkling aqua labyrinth of the pool below. The bed was simply dressed, with a splash of colour and organic patterns on the throw. The bathroom was coloured with subtle hues and and came equipped with self-branded bath gels and bathrobes. We were delighted to find a complimentary tray of Balinese snacks to welcome us.

The Food

In the busy restaurant we sampled the local chicken satay, accompanied by a side dish of peanut sauce. Presented on its own mini barbecue, and accompanied by colourful herbs and vegetables, it went down a treat. The eclectic restaurant was a fun place to dine, where every inch was covered in odd-curios, from boat oars to large pots and coloured wooden panelling. There was even a special kids dining area.

Our Verdict of the Mövenpick Resort Jimbaran Bali

The spectacular architecture and easy-access to the beach makes Mövenpick Resort Jimbaran Bali a must if you choose to stay in the Jimbaran area, particularly for families. If you’re looking for a minimalist hotel, this isn’t for you as the Movenpick prides itself on it’s unique details and cultural influence, which for us made this a pleasurable stay. If you don’t stay for the comfy room and interesting architecture, then stay for the luxury pool time and laid-back atmosphere. If you have kids in tow, the marine-inspired playground and kids’ club will keep your children busy, whilst you relax at the spa.
